Let people come round again
Whether the same person can go through a flow more than once.
By default someone goes through a flow once, ever. The switch in the flow’s right-hand panel lets them come round again — and whether that’s essential, harmless or a mistake depends entirely on your trigger.
It depends on your trigger
| Trigger | Repeat entry |
|---|---|
| A date comes round | Required — or it fires once, ever |
| Joins a list | Harmless — they’d have to leave and rejoin |
| Opens or clicks a campaign | Dangerous — see below |
| Matches a segment | No effect — always once |
| Contact is created | No effect — can only happen once |
The panel gives you this advice for the trigger you actually picked, which is why the switch lives there rather than in a settings menu: six words and a tick box can’t carry it.
The dangerous case
Opens and clicks repeat far more than you think
Someone who opens the same email five times — scrolling back to it, opening it on a phone and then a laptop — enters the flow five times with repeat entry on, and once with it off. That is a measured number, not a worst case.
Five simultaneous runs means five copies of every email in the flow. On an engagement trigger, leave it off unless you have a specific reason.
The case where it's required
A birthday or renewal flow has to run every year. With repeat entry off, we skip anyone who has ever had a run — so each person is wished happy birthday once, in their life, which flatly contradicts what the trigger promises.
With it on, a yearly flow is protected by a long cooldown, so it fires once a year rather than once a day for as long as the date matches.
Leaving early doesn't lock you out
If someone’s run was cancelled — they unsubscribed partway and later genuinely opted back in — that cancelled run doesn’t count as having had the flow. They never received it, so refusing them a fresh start would be indefensible.
Someone who completed the flow is still blocked, as you’d expect.
Common issues
Someone got the same email several times
Repeat entry on an opens or clicks trigger is nearly always the cause. Turn it off; people already in the flow finish their runs.
My birthday flow only ever ran once per person
Repeat entry is off. It has to be on for a date trigger.
I turned it on for a segment trigger and nothing changed
Expected — it has no effect there. A periodic check can’t distinguish “just started matching” from “still matching”, so segment entry is always once-only. Without that, anyone still matching would re-enter the moment their run ended.
FAQs
Can someone be in the same flow twice at the same time?+
With repeat entry on, yes — two runs proceed independently, which is exactly why an engagement trigger multiplies so quickly.
Does turning it off remove people already in the flow?+
No. It only affects who can enter from then on; anyone mid-flow finishes normally. Use Pause if you need to stop things immediately.
Why is the label about emails rather than “re-entry”?+
Because “can they re-enter the graph” describes the mechanism, and what anyone actually needs to decide is whether the same person may get the same emails again. On a flow with no email steps the label changes to match — it asks about running again, not sending again.
