Daily sending limits and how they rise
Why a new account starts small, and what lifts the ceiling.
Every account has a rolling 24-hour sending limit. New accounts start modest and rise on their own. Your current limit and today’s usage are on the dashboard.
Why the limit exists
Everyone here shares sending infrastructure and, with it, a reputation. One account mailing a bought list of fifty thousand people would produce enough bounces and complaints to damage delivery for every other customer — and mailbox providers judge in hours, not weeks.
Starting small and opening up is what prevents that. It isn’t a judgement about you; it’s the only design where one new account can’t cost everyone else their delivery on its first afternoon.
It's also what a sensible sender would choose
Ramping up gradually is how deliverability people warm a new sender anyway. The limit mostly enforces good practice you’d want regardless.
How it rises
Automatically, as you build a record. What counts:
- A verified domain. The single biggest lift — a free sending address has a lower ceiling because it shares our identity.
- Volume sent cleanly. Consistent sending without bounce or complaint problems.
- Time. A few days of good behaviour beats any amount of asking.
- Having paid. A settled payment raises the floor — after a short delay, because that delay is what defeats stolen-card abuse.
You don’t apply for any of it. The limit is recalculated as things change.
What happens when you hit it
A send that would exceed the limit is refused up front rather than part-sent, and nothing is charged. Wait for the rolling window to move, or split the campaign across days.
Automations and welcome emails count towards the same limit, since they’re ordinary mail as far as providers are concerned.
Common issues
The limit shown is lower than the tier I expected
A ceiling applies to accounts sending from an address on our domain, and it wins over the tier. The page names the reason and links to verifying your own domain, which is what lifts it.
I paid but the limit hasn't moved
A card payment counts after a short settling period. The refusal message says the payment is still clearing when that’s the cause.
I need to send a lot, once, for a launch
Get in touch beforehand rather than on the day — it’s far easier to raise a limit for a sender who has explained what they’re about to do than to unpick a blocked send.
FAQs
Is the limit per day or rolling?+
Rolling over 24 hours, so capacity returns gradually rather than at midnight.
Do test emails count?+
No — they only go to your own team, so they can’t affect your reputation the way real sending does.
Does a bigger balance raise it?+
Having paid raises the floor, but topping up more doesn’t buy more capacity. Credit and reputation are separate, deliberately — the accounts sending most volume are exactly the ones that must keep being checked.
