The unsubscribe link and postal address the law requires
Both are added automatically — and hiding them backfires.
Every campaign carries an unsubscribe link and your postal address. Both are added at send time — you can’t forget them, and you can’t remove them.
The unsubscribe link
Added to the footer of every campaign, welcome email and automation email. Clicking it opts that person out across your entire account immediately — not just the list the campaign targeted.
The page they land on is branded as you: your name, and your logo if you’ve verified your own domain. That isn’t decoration. Someone who clicks unsubscribe in mail from your business and lands on a brand they don’t recognise has been trained to distrust it — and their fallback is the spam button.
Mailbox providers also offer their own one-click unsubscribe in the message header. That’s supported too, and it opts people out here exactly the same way.
Don't try to hide it
A hidden link converts opt-outs into complaints
Someone who wants out gets out. If the link is hard to find, they’ll press “report spam” instead — which is worse for you by an enormous margin. An unsubscribe costs you one contact; a complaint counts against the threshold that decides whether your mail reaches anyone.
Some senders put a second, more prominent unsubscribe near the top. That sounds counterintuitive and it works: it reduces complaints.
The postal address
Commercial email must carry a real physical address — that’s CAN-SPAM in the US, and similar rules elsewhere. Set yours once in your brand profile and it fills in on new campaigns automatically.
A registered office or a mailbox service is acceptable in most jurisdictions if you work from home. What isn’t acceptable is leaving it out.
If your design already includes an address, we won’t print a second one.
Common issues
The pre-send review says my address is missing
Set it in the brand profile, then check the campaign itself — campaigns created before you filled the profile don’t pick it up retrospectively.
Can I remove the unsubscribe link?
No. It’s legally required for bulk mail and it protects you — the alternative is complaints.
Someone unsubscribed but is still on a list
List membership and mailable status are different things. They stay on the list and are simply never mailed, which is what keeps their choice recorded if the address turns up in a future import.
FAQs
Do transactional emails need this too?+
Purely transactional mail — a receipt, a password reset — is treated differently by law. Everything you send from here is marketing mail, so it all carries both.
Can I style the unsubscribe footer?+
Not directly, and it’s deliberately plain and legible. You can add your own unsubscribe link higher up in the design if you want it more prominent.
How fast is an opt-out honoured?+
Immediately. The rules allow a couple of days; waiting is a good way to collect complaints.
