What happens if you run out mid-campaign
It can't happen — the balance is checked before anything sends.
The short answer: it can’t. A campaign that your balance won’t cover is refused before anything goes out, rather than sending to as many people as the money reaches.
Checked before the first email
When you send or schedule, we work out what the whole campaign costs and compare it with your balance. Not enough, and the send is refused with a message saying so.
Half a campaign is worse than none: your audience is split into people who got it and people who didn’t, with no way to tell which is which without care, and re-sending risks mailing the first group twice.
Every route is checked, not just the button
Sending now, scheduling, a scheduled campaign firing later, and an A/B test rolling out to the remainder are all gated the same way. A scheduled campaign is re-checked when it fires, since your balance can change in between.
If a send stops for another reason
Sending can halt partway for reasons other than money — most often because bounce or complaint rates crossed a safe threshold. When that happens:
- Everyone already mailed has been mailed; nothing is sent twice.
- The unsent portion is refunded to your balance.
- The campaign shows what happened, and resuming picks up exactly where it stopped.
Automations just wait
An automation or welcome email with no credit behind it holds rather than dropping anyone. Top up and the queued mail goes out.
One limit worth knowing: an automation email that has waited more than about ten days is dropped instead of sent. A message that late has usually stopped being relevant.
Common issues
“Not enough credit” but the numbers look fine
Check the recipient count on the campaign rather than the size of your list — a segment can be broader than expected. Small campaigns also carry a per-campaign minimum.
A scheduled campaign didn't send
It’s re-checked at the moment it fires. If the balance had gone since you scheduled it, it will have been held rather than part-sent. Top up and send it.
FAQs
Will you send as much as my balance covers?+
No, deliberately. A partly-sent campaign is a worse outcome than a refused one, and much harder to recover from.
Am I charged for a campaign that failed?+
Only for what actually sent. The rest is refunded automatically.
