View in browser
A web copy of every email, added automatically.
Every campaign carries a small “View this email in your browser” link at the top. You don’t add it and you can’t forget it.
Why it's there
Email rendering fails in ways nobody can fully prevent. An old client mangles the layout, images are blocked, a corporate gateway strips something. The web version is the escape hatch: the same email, in a browser, where it just works.
It’s also how people share your email — forwarding carries the original recipient’s personal links, whereas the web version is a plain URL.
It's personalised to that recipient
Each recipient’s link shows the email they received, with their merge tags filled in. So a page opened from Sam’s copy says “Hi Sam”.
Worth knowing before sharing widely
If someone posts their link publicly, anyone opening it sees the version addressed to them. It’s their own copy, not a generic one — fine in practice, but not a neutral URL for a website.
The page isn’t indexed by search engines.
Test sends are the exception
The link in a test email doesn’t work — a test has no recipient record behind it, so there’s nothing to personalise from. That’s expected, and it’s usually how people discover the feature.
Real sends work normally.
Common issues
The link 404s
Almost always a test send. Check from a real campaign.
Can I remove it?
Not currently. It’s a single small line at the top, and it rescues the readers whose client renders your email badly — who are, by definition, the ones you’d otherwise lose.
I want a public link for social media
A recipient’s link works, but it’s personalised to them. For a genuinely public page, put the content on your own site.
FAQs
Does viewing in a browser count as an open?+
The page loads the same tracking as the email, so it can register. It’s a small effect — and open rate is already unreliable for much bigger reasons.
How long do the links last?+
Indefinitely, like the unsubscribe link in the same email. Emails sit in inboxes for years, so their links have to keep working.
